I don't know when the thing with color started. Its like I've been able to taste and smell it all my life. It was a while before I realized that not everyone feels color. I finally started fooling around with paint about ten years ago and it just keeps going on. The work sort of creates itself. I'm as curious to see where it goes as anyone. As with many artists, my work has gone through a number of stages during what passes for my career. Several themes are illustrated on this site. Mostly the painting tends to be non-representational and abstract, focusing on the interplay of color, shape and texture, although floral subjects and fantasy landscapes pop up periodically. I tend to work in large formats. You would have to call what I do "mixed media." David glops plaster on the boards and we scrape it around to give the work texture. Thats the latest thing for us. I incorporate microreflective pigments in many pieces. The appearance of these works changes rather dramatically under different lighting conditions. The basic acryllic colors dominate in daylight. Their personality morphs after dark with limited artifical light. They shimmer and sparkle, often in a completely different color palette. Their appearance is very dependendent on lighting and viewing angles so they change as you move. This behavior is pretty hard to show in still photos, although I have included views of several works under different conditions to give you some idea. We plan to make videos and animations to get the effect across more effectively. There are microreflective specks simply everywhere in our environment. You visit, you go home wearing a sparkle somewhere. David says we are living proof they're not toxic. . . .
